The Watergate Co-Op (D.C.)
By Anthony Longo 29 06 2006
The world famous ‘town within a city’ is going co-op. This summer The Watergate Hotel will be closing it doors to begin the transformation to 96 luxury residences. The Watergate is situated at the head of the sought after Foggy Bottom neighborhood and serves as a grand entrance to DC. The area is filled with numerous high-end shops and restaurants but is in walking distance to all of DC’s attractions.
Recently, The Watergate was relegated as a Historic Landmark for two main reasons. The first is obvious, with the Nixon scandal, which changed the landscape of national politics. The second, is world renonwed architect Luigi Moretti. Moretti is the most well known Italian Modernists of the 20th Century and The Wategate is his only work in the U.S. It’s no question that The Watergate is going to be a hit among DC’s elite. On top of the historical signficance and beautiful design, The Watergate will be second to none in amenties and views of the Potomoc River.
The Watergate will contain a spa, health club, private theatre, lounge and roof top terrace in addition to the ground level pavilion which will receive a much-needed facelift. Plus, the location is ideal, next to the Kennedy Center and a short walk to the Georgetown shops and restaurants and 10 minute ride to Reagan Airport.
